Homes are hitting the market as COVID-19 restrictions start to lift in Maryland, and as a result, many home sellers are looking to list. However, getting out of the house is harder than it used to be! If your home sellers are curious about the length of time it takes for a thorough chimney inspection and cleaning, here is what they need to know.

How Long Does a Standard Chimney Inspection Take?

At Clean Sweep, our inspections are very thorough but also very streamlined. In most cases, an inspection will take about an hour from arrival at the property to submitting the report. We use a comprehensive checklist and take photos from inside the chimney to ensure that there is plenty of information for your homeowners and home sellers to use. Of course, the length of inspection time can vary depending on the condition of the chimney. If there is more damage that needs to be photographed and noted, it will take us a longer time to complete the inspection.

How Long Does a Standard Chimney Cleaning Take?

This can also vary depending on the amount of creosote inside of the chimney and whether or not there is additional damage. We will remove both soot and creosote from the inside of the chimney to ensure it is safe to use. Every flue is different, but, in general, a standard chimney cleaning will take between 45 minutes and an hour. Some of the factors that increase the time it takes to clean a chimney include whether or not there is a lot of creosote present, if the flue has damage or if there are blockages like nests present. We always suggest a cleaning in conjunction with an inspection before putting a home on the market. Our report will also recommend any additional repairs that should be made to ensure the chimney is structurally safe to use.
