Happy New Year! Home buying competition and prices both soared in 2021, and there is no reason to think that will be changing any time soon. As such, many across the state of Maryland are gearing up to list their homes on the market this spring! Naturally, this will take some planning. If your home sellers are curious about the length of time it takes for a thorough chimney inspection and cleaning, here is what they need to know!

How Long Does a Standard Chimney Inspection Take?

While inspections from Clean Sweep are streamlined, we are also very thorough. In most cases, an inspection will take about an hour from our arrival at the property to submitting the report. We come prepared with a comprehensive checklist and take photos from inside the chimney to ensure that there is plenty of information for your home sellers and homeowners to use.

While we like to aim for an hour, there are a few instances that may increase the time of our visit. The length of inspection largely depends on the condition of the chimney. If there is more damage that needs to be photographed and noted, it will generally take us a bit longer to complete the inspection.

How Long Does a Standard Chimney Cleaning Take?

So, what if we discover a home seller’s chimney is in need of a cleaning before listing their home in 2022? The length of a chimney cleaning varies depending on the amount of creosote inside of the chimney, and whether any additional damage is discovered once the creosote is thoroughly removed. If the flue has damage or if there are blockages like nests present, additional time may be needed to thoroughly rectify these issues.

In any case, we will remove both soot and creosote from the inside of the chimney to ensure it is safe for future use. Every flue is different, but we find that most of our chimney cleanings take between 45 minutes and one hour.

We always suggest a cleaning in conjunction with an inspection before putting a home on the market. Our reports also include any recommended additional repairs that should be made to ensure the chimney is structurally safe to use.
